What is h2?


Molecular hydrogen (H2) is an inert gas consisting of molecules of two bonded hydrogen atoms. It is the most powerful antioxidant in the world, with over 850 peer reviewed articles that demonstrate its therapeutic potential in essentially every organ of the human body, including 170 different human disease models.

Do I need to consult with my doctor prior to drinking H2?


It is always smart to consult with your doctor prior to starting anything new, especially if you are currently on any medication. However, because H2 has absolutely no side effects even when consumed in excess, it’s more than likely you’ll have no problems at all. If you are currently on medication and begin H2 therapy, you may possibly end up needing smaller dosages of medication over time. Therefore, it’s a good idea to let your doctor know that you’re engaged in this program so they can monitor your bloodwork and adjust medication if necessary.


What are antioxidants and why are they important?


The entire human body, from the skin to all of the internal organs, is made up of approximately 30 trillion cells, which are comprised of even smaller structures called molecules. Antioxidants are important because they are stable molecules that have the ability to donate extra electrons to stabilize rampaging free radicals without becoming unstable themselves.


What makes a molecule stable?


A molecule is made up of one or multiple atoms consisting of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons reside together in the middle of the atom, while electrons are typically in an even number of pairs circled around them. If the electrons become unpaired and are in an odd number, the molecule becomes highly reactive and unstable, aka a free radical. 


What are free radicals?

Free radicals are formed spontaneously through our body’s natural physiological properties or as a result of environmental factors (i.e. diet, stress, smoking, alcohol, exercise, inflammation, drugs, or exposure to radiation and air pollutants, etc). Approximately 3-5% of the air we breathe becomes toxic free radicals that can in turn be damaging to our bodies. Free radicals will steal electrons from stable molecules around them, causing a chain reaction of cell damage. This process is known as oxidative stress and can lead to destruction within the body, such as DNA damage, premature aging, cellular mutation, and chronic inflammation, all of which lead to chronic disease. But not all free radicals are bad. In fact, many are essential to various important bodily functions, such those that fight off harmful bacteria and viruses.


What is inflammation?


Inflammation is the body’s attempt at self-protection by removing harmful stimuli in and around wounds, damaged cells, irritants, or pathogens, and is eventually the beginning of the healing process. Prolonged or chronic inflammation on the other hand can lead to every chronic disease.


What causes free radicals?

UV radiation, air pollution, toxins, sleep deprivation, stress, cigarette smoke, alcohol, electromagnetic fields from technology, poor nutrition, exercise, simply breathing, and more. 


What makes h2 the most powerful antioxidant in the world?


Because it is selective, has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy, anti-obesity, anti-cell death properties, leaves no toxic byproducts (it only produces water), is qualified to cross through the blood-brain barrier, raises your body’s own antioxidant system, and you cannot overdose as excess h2 will expire through the lungs.


What is cell signaling?


The transfer of information from one cell to another. Cell signaling is important for cells to grow and function properly. Cells that lose the ability to respond to signals from other cells may become cancer cells.


What is cell metabolism?


A set of chemical reactions that occur in living organisms in order to maintain life.



What is gene expression?


A gene is a small piece of genetic material written in a code, called DNA. Within each gene is a set of instructions for creating molecules that organisms require in order to survive. Genes themselves cannot be used by an organism. Instead they must be turned into a gene product. Gene expression is the process by which the information contained within a gene becomes a useful product.


What does “selective” refer to?

There are different types of free radicals inside our body - some are toxic and lead to disease, while others have beneficial properties. H2 will selectively neutralize only the most toxic free radicals while leaving the beneficial ones alone.  

What is the blood-brain barrier?

The blood-brain barrier is a filtering mechanism to protect the brain and spinal cord, allowing only certain nutrients and proteins inside, while preventing harmful products and sometimes exogenous (outside) antioxidants from crossing the barrier. H2, the most powerful antioxidant, can cross the blood-brain barrier and easily combat toxic free radicals in the brain and spine. 


What can H2 do for me?

What does bioavailable mean?


Bioavailable means the degree of which nutrients are available for absorption and utilization in the body. Because H2 can easily enter the cells and the mitochondria within cells (which are the power house of all cells where most of the free radicals are created), it is highly bioavailable.


Do other antioxidants have side effects if consumed in excess?


Antioxidants such as Vitamin C or E supplements taken in excess can cause side effects such as damage to the muscle tissue, allergic reactions, breathing impairment, and swelling of the tongue.  On the other hand, h2 has absolutely no side effects because any excess will expire through the lungs.


What is the difference between alkaline water and hydrogen water?


Alkaline water simply means there is more hydroxide than hydrogen ions inside the water, which raises the pH level, but it does not have any therapeutic benefits. Hydrogen water, on the other hand, is water with dissolved molecular hydrogen gas inside.


Is alkaline water effective keeping the body’s blood pH more alkaline?


The body regulates blood pH level very tightly around 7.35 to 7.45 through the kidneys and respiratory system by either slowing down breathing (retaining carbon dioxide) or excreting bicarbonate to increase hydrogen ion (acid) which decreases the pH level if it goes above 7.45 or by speeding up breathing (releasing carbon dioxide) or absorbing bicarbonate to decrease hydrogen ion which will raise the pH level if it goes below 7.35. Simply drinking alkaline water higher in pH will not raise the pH level in the blood or we would reach alkalosis immediately facing severe side effects  

Does a negative ORP (oxidative-reduction potential) reading inside the water have any therapeutic benefits?


Yes and no. The ORP value only tells you if an oxidation-reduction reaction can happen. It does not tell you how fast or even if it will happen. It also does not tell you if it has physiological and biological antioxidant value if consumed internally. More important than the ORP value is the chemical species responsible for that ORP value (such as molecular hydrogen).  Just because water has a low or negative ORP does not mean that it has any physiological or biological antioxidant value if consumed internally. Indeed, something with a negative ORP could actually be toxic, and something with a positive ORP may actually be therapeutic.


I heard that micro clustered water shows benefits similar to h2 water. Are they the same thing?


Absolutely not. Micro-clustering of water actually won the Silver Fleece Award for “Anti-Aging Quackery” in 2002 for being the product with the most ridiculous, outrageous, scientifically unsupported or exaggerated assertions about aging or age-related diseases. In contrast, molecular hydrogen has over 850 peer-reviewed articles demonstrating the therapeutic potential of H2 in essentially every organ of the human body including 170 different human disease models. This is a big reason why many ridicule the concept of ionized water.
